THE HEALTHY TEETH FOUNDATION

OBJECTIVES

The Healthy Teeth Foundation was founded in November 2018. It is my dream that every child on earth can go to school, unfortunately 80% of all children in slums in Africa and Asia suffer from tooth decay. Toothache is one of the main reasons of school absenteeism and of lack of self-esteem. Because of toothache children do not attend school, which is disastrous for their future. For education is the only way to escape the poverty trap.

Nelson Mandela rightfully stated:

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world

ABOUT ME

My name is Alice Grasveld and I am a dental hygienist, a medical anthropologist and an action researcher. I am a PhD student at the Amsterdam Academic Centre for Dentistry (ACTA) department of Preventive Dentistry, and I work in dental hygienist practice in The Hague. Several times I volunteered with dental development organizations in South Africa and Kenya. I set up and carried out (action) research projects for different Dental organizations and in 2018 I started my own foundation ‘The Healthy Teeth Foundation’. It is my dream that every child on earth can go to school whether they are from slums or from wealthy backgrounds and that dental problems do not prevent them from going. Unfortunately, toothache is still one of the main reasons of school absenteeism…
